The Mausoleum is the only wonder to be built by a woman and her name was Artemisia. In
352 BC she built the Mausoleum for her husband, King Maussollos, with the help of her sister.
The location was in the city of Halicarnassus, now Bodrum, in South West Turkey .

Details about its significance.
This enormous white marble tomb was built to hold the remains of Maussollos, a provincial king in the Persian empire, and his wife Artemisia. Greek architects Satyrus and Pythius designed the approximately forty five meter tomb. Four famous Grecian sculptors added a decorative band around its exterior.
The finished structure was considered to be such a triumph it became one of the 7 Wonders of the Ancient World.

How it was destroyed.
An earthquake caused some damage to the roof and collonade and in 1494 the stones were used to fortify a Crusader castle. By 1522 almost nothing remained.
