The castle is located in (near) Fussen, Germany.


Christian Jank designed the castle, but he wasn't even an architect. Instead he was known as a theatrical set designer. King Luwig ll built the castle, which took from from September 5 1869-1886.

Other facts:

Originally the castle was called "New Hohenschwangau Castle", but when then king died it was re-named "Neuschwanstein."
The castle from Sleeping Beauty ( in Disneyland) was based on the Neuschwanstein castle.
"Neushwanstein" literally means "the castle of the Swan Knight".

You should vote for this castle as one of the New Wonders of the World because it has been re-built, so it's likely to be around for a long time. Kids would also appreciate it as it was the inspiration for the Disneyland castle. Plus it's a beautiful castle, on a fantastic landscape.
